Marlborough Multicultural Centre

We are here for you!

Celebration of  diversity in a safe and welcoming environment so that people of all ethnicities feel empowered, with a sense of connectedness and belonging

We offer relocated nationals and international newcomers a welcoming place where people make connections and celebrate diversity in a safe environment.

Our services are often described as the starting point for newcomers and serves as a link and referral agency, providing advocacy and navigation to relevant agencies, who often work collaboratively to support people’s settlement process.

We provide a professional relationship for advocacy services, settlement support and navigation assistance to all newcomers.

We conduct community educational programmes relevant to the settlement process for newcomers and equally importantly, the host community.

We host various cultural events such as the Multicultural Festival, International Women’s Evening and various other cultural events and celebrations.

We are one of 40 Networks operating throughout NZ that offers friendship and social activities including our weekly morning teas.

I want to thank you for making me feel so welcome at the Multicultural Centre during my time in Blenheim. My experiences both as the director of a medical interpreter service for non-English speakers and as the foster mother to a refugee teenager from Liberia have sensitized me to the issues faced by people attempting to acclimate to a new country and that is what drew me to the work that you do.

I met many women at the centre. some seemed well acclimated to New Zealand, others still seemed lonely and in need of assistance, social contact and a place to practice their English. All of them were obviously grateful to the Migrant Centre and to you personally for offering support, for linking them to available resources in the area and for providing an opportunity for social interaction.

Having spent all of my working life in non-profits I know how difficult it is to provide that level of service when faced with the reality of budgetary and personnel constraints. I take my hat off to you for the work you are doing and wishyou all the best in your ongoing commitment to the migrants who have settled in Marlborough.

“I was made to feel welcome from the start and continued to make friends”

I have observed the confidence of our migrant people feeling strong and asking questions to find out information and where their cultural diversity is truly celebrated.
